Dental veneers are covers made of ceramic or plastic. They are used to correct, close small gaps and to cover stains or colouring, and can be made to the same colour as the existing teeth.
Other than crowns or bridges, an abrasion of the teeth to ne treated is minimal, so that healthy tooth substance is saved. Dental veneers are applied to the visible surface, and are fixed using a special adhesive. Abstinece from hard, acidic or dycing foodstuff, and careful tooth-mouth-hygiene, can lead to a 15 year life span for the dental veneers.
Patients who suffer from bruxismus (grinding teeth) and a hang to caries, are recommended not to have dental veneers. The tooth grinding destabilises the adhesion and causes the veneers to wear out quicker.
